The Leaving

Oh I once was a king, a little bolder

I had to escape from this French country border

All my problems had gone, far enough

So I hopped in the stagecoach ran past the station

Marie got mad I was leaving the nation

I was forced to accept, we were too far to turn back

Now I know, you can’t run from the troubles of the past

Now I know you can’t see what’s scheduled in the time to come

What I forgot is that I can't see what's right there in front of me even if it was my enemy

All I knew is that I had to get out of the place that I was

We got seventeen miles from the Austrian line

The guard came up, he thought I was dying

I tried to keep my cool but the scare was too much for me

He checked in my bag, I was ready to run

Now that I think of it, I wish I had my gun

But it's too late for that now the deed has already been done

Now I know, you can’t run from the troubles of the past

Now I know you can’t see what’s scheduled in the time to come

What I forgot is that I can't see what's right there in front of me even if it was my enemy

All I knew is that I had to get out of the place that I was

I know there was a time, I should have accepted

The way things were goin’ instead I left it

Now half is in the basket and half is lying on the ground.
